While Hawai'i is known for it's beautiful beaches and seascapes, the mountains and valleys of Hawai'i deserve an equal amount of recognition. Funfact 1: The chain of Hawaiian islands were formed by a "hot spot" on the middle of the Pacific tectonic plate. As the plates moved over the hot spot the Hawaii island chain grew. Thus, the islands seen above water today are the remaining volcano tops. That being said, it baffles me how lush and beautiful these islands are. The mountain ranges and valleys are breathtaking and the vegetation birthed on the foundation of volcanic rock. It's amazing how green and beautiful these islands are and I hope that I give it half the respect and recognition that it deserves. Fun Fact 2: The tallest mountain measured from top to bottom is Mauna Kea, an inactive volcano on the island of Hawaii in the Pacific Ocean. Measured from the base, Mauna Kea stands 33,474 feet (10,203 meters) tall, though it only rises 13,796 feet (4,205 meters) above the sea.

Funfact 3: The Hawaiian islands are part of a larger archipelago, consisting of 132 islands,reefs, atolls, shallow banks, shoals, and seamounts. That being said, it comes at no surpirse that Hawai'i is a common place which comes to mind when you think of beautiful seascapes. I have been blessed to live in such a beautiful area and never take any of these places for granted. If I have learned anything from living her the last seven years about these destination hot spots (pun intended), none of these beautiful beaches get the respect they deserve. The beaches here are undeniably beautiful, but the appreciation for these fragile environments are compromised by overdevelopment and pollution. Living here, we see the pollution and destruction first hand and are often the ones taking the time to keep it clean them on our own time. While I have a nice collection of seascape photographs, I also have a large collection of photographs that were ruined by the presence of trash and other pollution floating on surface of the ocean and along the shoreline. With this collection of clean photographs, I hope that I can inspire those visiting and those living here to respect and take care of these delicate places. The ocean covers over 70 percent of our planet and that number gives me a reason to believe it's worth preserving and learning from. Clearly the ocean means a lot to me and I hope it means a lot to you.
